COMMUNITY HERO AWARDS 2009 and 2010
In 2009 the Parish Council agreed to present an annual Community Hero Award to a resident of the parish who has done outstanding voluntary work within the community for the benefit of the residents of the Parish.
Unfortunately there were no nominations for the 2011 award. The Committee will consider how the scheme can be promoted better next year.
There were two nominations for the 2010 award and the Committee felt they were equally deserving and so it was agreed to make a joint award. Jean Froggett was commended for her work in schools; campaigning against development in Durkar; and her contribution to the Methodist Church in Crigglestone. She also takes action to address a variety of local environmental problems in the area. Ken Hartley is similarly an untiring member of the Methodist Church. He was nominated for his help to elderly neighbours with shopping and transportation to appointments and social events, as well as looking after his wife. At the Parish Council meeting on 4 January 2011, the Chairman, Councillor John Peebles was pleased to present Community Hero Awards 2010 to Jean and Ken.

The 2009 Award was awarded to Keith Wainwright in recognition of his valuable contribution to the parish over many years.
